All New Holden Colorado Goes Back to the Bush

Holden’s all-new Colorado goes back to the bush as the tough workhorse is officially launched in Queensland this week.

Boasting a robust and rugged exterior, a powerful new range of Duramax turbo diesel engines, serious 4x4 models and passenger car features, Colorado will cement its reputation as a hardworking, solid and reliable light commercial vehicle.

Executive Director of Engineering, Greg Tyus, said the all new truck was a truly global vehicle that was strong and versatile enough to suit the needs of customers in more than 60 markets around the world.

“The design, execution and validation of this vehicle was managed by an international GM team including dedicated Holden engineers, who amassed some two-and-a-half million test kilometres over five continents during the development program,” Tyus said.

“This truck has well and truly been put to the test so we are in no doubt of Colorado’s hardworking, tough credentials.”

To be sold in three body styles, Single Cab, Space Cab and the family-friendly Crew Cab, and four models – DX, LX, LT and LTZ, the Colorado range offers two all-new four cylinder Duramax turbo diesel engines, a 2.5 litre or 2.8 litre powertrain option.

The 2.8 litre turbo-diesel generates 132 kW of power and maximum 470 Nm of torque when teamed with the six-speed auto, and a maximum 440 Nm of torque when teamed with five-speed manual transmission.

Vehicles powered by the 2.8 litre diesel engine will benefit from a class-leading towing capacity of 3.5 tonne.

The 2.5 litre turbo-diesel is rated at 110 kW and produces 350 Nm of torque and will have an impressive 3.0 tonne towing capacity.

To emphasise its workhorse qualifications, every Colorado in the range is rated to carry a one tonne payload with some models able to carry up to 1.4 tonne.

Executive Director of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, John Elsworth said he was looking forward to delivering Colorados to patient Holden dealers.

“Colorado plays a vital role in our portfolio; it’s traditionally one of our best selling models and extremely important to our brand so this launch couldn’t come quick enough,” Elsworth said.

“We’ve been thrilled with the response we received during our pre-sell campaign.

“Thanks to its bold design, gutsy diesel engine range, confident handling, overall refinement and class-leading 3.5 tonne towing capacity on the 2.8 litre models, it’s generated genuine excitement across our dealer network and in the marketplace.”

The new Colorado offers an extensive choice of accessories to allow owners to customise their vehicle for their personal tastes and requirements.

Over 65 per cent of the accessories in the Colorado portfolio are unique to Holden and were developed and engineered in Australia to ensure the highest possible levels of functionality, integration and safety performance.

Colorado is built at GM’s advanced vehicle assembly plant in Rayong, Thailand.  The powerful new range of Duramax four-cylinder turbo diesel engines are produced exclusively at GM’s high-tech Thailand engine operations, which opened alongside the vehicle plant in September last year.

The new generation Holden Colorado range officially goes on sale on Wednesday 13 June.
