All-New Mid-Size Sedan Expected to Go On Sale in 2013

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today will announce the production of the all-new 2014 Mazda6, whose design elements will be strongly influenced by the TAKERI Concept, also making its North American debut today, at the New York International Auto Show.  Following last month’s launch of the all-new 2013 Mazda CX-5, the 2014 Mazda6 will be the second of Mazda’s next-generation vehicles to receive the full suite of SKYACTIV® 1technologies, and is expected to be released for sale during the first quarter of 2013.

“With SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and the SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter gasoline engine, Mazda has showcased that improving engine and vehicle efficiencies can still produce a dynamic-performing driving machine, as evidenced by the 2012 Mazda3 and 2013 CX-5,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO.  “The all-new 2014 Mazda6 will be the latest Mazda to break out of its segment’s monotonous mold and be fiercely competitive versus the current sales leaders.”

For North America, the 2014 Mazda6 will feature a SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine and be available with two transmissions, the SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual and SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic.  Best-in-class fuel economy also is targeted, as was achieved on the CX-5 compact crossover SUV.  Final specifications and pricing will be announced closer to the vehicle’s sale date.  The global lineup of the all-new Mazda6 is expected to make its world debut at the upcoming 2012 Paris Motor Show in late September.

Hyundai Motor Company has staged a world premiere of the next-generation Santa Fe at the 2012 New York International Auto Show, held at the New York Jacob Javits Convention Center.

The next-generation Santa Fe showcases Hyundai’s cutting-edge capabilities through its “Fluidic Sculpture” design, impressive fuel economy and a host of features to delight drivers and passengers with high expectations for functionality and comfort.

The exterior of the next-generation Santa Fe evokes the impression of irrepressible motion through its own design concept called ‘Storm Edge’, which captures the strong and dynamic images created by nature during the formation of a storm. The futuristic and urban-style design with its bold hexagonal front grille is identifiably Hyundai.

The interior of the next-generation Santa Fe will come with a host of intelligent features that enhance the comfort and convenience of driver and passengers, providing a stress-free experience for all occupants.

The next-generation Santa Fe will be a great option for families seeking the size, flexibility and capability of a crossover. The next-generation Santa Fe rides on a 2,700mm wheelbase, with an overall length of 4,690mm, height of 1,680mm and width of 1,880mm; while lowered height and extended overhang gives it a sportier look. As well as its wider appearance, the next-generation Santa Fe delivers more spacious cabin room as well.

Next-generation Santa Fe will be available to markets with six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions, which have been tuned to suit the power delivery of the engine line-up.

In the U.S., two types of petrol engines will be available: 2.4-litre Theta Ⅱ GDI four-cylinder engine and 2.0-litre Theta Ⅱ turbocharged engine. The 2.4 Theta Ⅱ GDI engine delivers the maximum power of 142kW, and maximum torque of 245Nm, while achieving a fuel economy of 10.2 / 7.1 L/100km (city / highway). In the case of 2.0 Theta Ⅱ turbocharged engine, maximum power is 197kW, and maximum torque is 365Nm. Thanks to both GDI and turbocharger technologies, the Santa Fe delivers more power than many of the V6 competitors in the U.S., yet offers 4-cylinder level fuel economy.

In Europe, the next-generation Santa Fe will also be available with Hyundai’s 2.2-litre ‘R’ diesel engine featuring a variable geometry turbo (VGT). This all-aluminium engine generates 147kW and 431Nm of torque whilst achieving CO2 emissions of just 145 g/km.

As part of Hyundai’s efforts to present a unified brand image, Hyundai has adopted a new global naming strategy of one consistent name for one model worldwide. The next-generation model will be badged Santa Fe in all markets. However, according to local markets’ preferences, the sub-name may be differentiated. For instance, the Santa Fe will be called the Santa Fe Sport in the U.S. market.

Hyundai also unveiled a long wheelbase version of the next-generation Santa Fe which will only be offered in left hand drive format. This version, which will go on sale in the U.S. in January 2013 has a longer wheelbase of 2,800mm, with increased overall length of 4,905mm, height of 1,690mm and width of 1,885mm.

The next-generation Santa Fe (known as Santa Fe Sport in the U.S.) is scheduled to hit showrooms in Australia before the end of the year.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) will unveil its next-generation Outlander SUV for the first time in Asia at the 2012 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition*1 (Auto China 2012) which runs from 23 April to 2 May 2012.

Harmonizing environmental performance and a variety of new safety features with a refined appearance, the new Outlander embodies two major pillars to MMC's product strategy outlined in its JUMP 2013 mid-term business plan: global strategic models focused on emerging markets and environmental initiatives.

Also on display on the Mitsubishi Motors booth will be the upcoming 2013 ASX*2 compact SUV. With demand for SUVs growing fast in China, MMC plans to boost its supply of SUVs through local production of the 2013 ASX, sometime during fiscal 2012.

MMC’s show line-up of ten models (eight on Press Days) will also include the Pajero, which this year celebrates its 30th anniversary, and the Pajero Sport which was launched in the Chinese market in 2011.

All-new Outlander

New Outlander: Product Features
The new Outlander to be unveiled for the first time in Asia at Auto China 2012 features outstanding environmental performance, returning fuel efficiency and CO2 emission levels which will be among the best in its class. Other features distinguishing the new Outlander include outstanding safety performance, stemming from the adoption of advanced safety technology, and a high-quality and user-friendly interior.

The new Outlander will be launched first in Russia this summer, after which it will be rolled out in Europe, Japan, China, Oceania, North America and other global markets. MMC plans to bring the new model to market in China during fiscal 2012.

(1) Outstanding environmental performance with fuel efficiency and CO2 emission levels among best in class

    • The China-market Outlander will be offered with either the 4J11 2.0-litre in-line 4-cylinder 16-valve SOHC MIVEC*3 or the 4J12 2.4-liter 4-cylinder 16-valve SOHC MIVEC engines which both employ the all-new and improved version of the MIVEC variable valve train.
    • Body structure optimization and more extensive use of high-tensile strength steel panels mean that the new Outlander weighs less than the current model and together with improved aerodynamics this helps it to deliver a level of environmental performance which is among the best in its class.
    • Furthermore, the new Outlander will be equipped with an “eco-friendly driving system” that notifies the driver when he or she is driving at maximum efficiency. With this system, the driver can choose to drive at maximum efficiency to enhance actual fuel efficiency of the vehicle.

(2) Outstanding safety performance borne from advanced safety technologies

The new Outlander delivers outstanding safety performance through the use of the following advanced safety technologies:

  • FCM (Forward Crash Mitigation System): This system detects other vehicles on the road in front of the car and automatically applies the brakes as necessary to reduce the chance of a forward collision or reduce damage from a forward collision.
  • ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control System): This radar-based system operates to maintain a safe distance between the vehicle in front even at the very low speeds experienced in heavy traffic congestion.

(3) Refined, user-friendly interior

  • The dashboard is covered with soft padding while the high-quality look to the interior has been enhanced with the use of a piano-black centre panel and the effective use of chrome and silver highlights. The new Outlander cockpit is also distinguished by its ergonomic layout of easily-operable controls and switches together with high-resolution and easy-to-read instrument displays.
  • The comfortable second- and third-row seats (the latter a first for a China-market Outlander) can be easily configured to provide a number of seating patterns and also a very spacious luggage space with a flat floor.
  • A power-operated tailgate facilitates loading and unloading.

New-look ASX

The ASX is a compact SUV which was launched in the China market in September 2010. It enjoys high popularity for its exterior and interior design that express quality and sportiness and for its outstanding motive and environmental performance. The ASX is also known for its high levels of safety, winning high marks for collision safety in North America and Europe.

To further bolster its SUV supply in China Mitsubishi Motors plans to start local production of the ASX at a joint venture company in which MMC will hold a 50 percent stake. The locally-produced ASX will feature minor design changes, mainly to the exterior, which will give it a more dynamic and high-quality appearance.

 

Europe's leading manufacturer of LCVs exceeds last year's high level of sales by 7.9 percent, achieving 130,700 deliveries worldwide

In the period from January to March 2012 Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles continued to achieve even higher levels of deliveries. With deliveries up by 7.9 percent, the Brand has followed up and improved on last year's growth trend. In the first quarter of the current business year, Europe's leading manufacturer of LCVs made a total of 130,700 deliveries worldwide from its complete range of light commercial vehicles (Q1 2011: 121,200 deliveries). This was the Brand's best ever deliveries result for a first quarter year.

In the first quarter of 2012 it was the T5 which proved the highest-volume model, with a growth of six percent to 39,800 deliveries worldwide (Q1 2011: 37,500). At 36,200 vehicles, worldwide deliveries of the Caddy remained on the high level of the previous year (Q1 2011: 36,500). The Crafter increased its worldwide deliveries by 40.2 percent to 11,500 units (Q1 2011: 8,200). In the first quarter the Amarok also successfully boosted its deliveries figures by 36 percent, achieving 18,900 vehicles worldwide (Q1 2011: 13,900).

Deliveries in Western Europe from January to March 2012 went up by 7.5 percent to 70,200 vehicles (Q1 2011: 65.300). The Brand's highest-volume market was Germany, with 28,900 deliveries to customers (Q1 2011: 25,900 vehicles), representing an increase of 11.5 percent.

In Eastern Europe deliveries grew by 39.2 percent to 10,100 vehicles (Q1 2011: 7,300). The highest volume region outside Europe was once again South America, with a deliveries result of 33,400 vehicles (Q1 2011: 32,900). Other non-European regions also showed growth rates in high double figures, particularly due to the growth of Amarok deliveries. Deliveries in the Asia-Pacific region went up by 65 percent, and in Africa they increased by 44.8 percent.
