Australian customer requirements set benchmark for global tuning of new Mitsubishi Triton:

  • Engine torque delivery and responsiveness
  • High speed stability  on dirt and gravel surfaces
  • Towing performance and stability

Australian customer requirements have heavily influenced the dynamic performance of Mitsubishi’s new generation Triton, with many of the Australian-specific improvements adopted for the global market.

Reinforcing the growing importance of the Australian market in Mitsubishi Motor’s product plans, the new Triton was thoroughly tested in Australia during its development with multiple exercises carried out on sand, gravel and coarse chip bitumen, along with towing and heavy duty off-road testing.

The resulting changes for the Australian market played a central role in determining the global tune of Triton’s engine’s torque characteristics, high speed stability on gravel surfaces and overall towing performance and stability.

Australian customer feedback was also instrumental in new Triton’s early stages.  Mitsubishi Motor’s Triton program global lead Koichi Namiki travelled extensively within Australia to personally meet with existing Triton owners across mining, farming, Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and other industry to understand their day-to-day vehicle use.

Valuable intelligence gathered from these interviews helped shape the 2016 Triton program, ensuring the new model would perform well in Australia’s unique local conditions and climate.

Mitsubishi Motors Australian CEO Mutsuhiro Oshikiri said more than 295,000 Tritons had been sold locally, making Australia one of MMC’s biggest – and most influential – Triton customers.

“We are a very important export market for Triton,” he said. “Triton sales continue to go from strength to strength in Australia in line with the LCV market, so it’s essential the new Triton is a perfect match for our customers.

“I’m glad Mitsubishi Motors see Australia as a very attractive place to test new models, mainly due to our broad mix of roads and environmental conditions, but I’m more pleased testing on Australian soil has resulted in improvements to new Triton that suit Australian driver preferences for faster torque delivery and responsiveness.

“These improvements will not only benefit customers in Australia but, more importantly, all Triton customers around the world.”

Mitsubishi Motors new 2016 Outlander has arrived in Australia with substantial mid-life changes, marking a new era for the brand in design excellence, refinement and overall driver engagement.

The new-look 2016 Outlander has been redesigned and re-engineered from nose to tail to deliver a dynamic new appearance and significantly improved performance on the road.

Hot on the heels of its reveal at this month’s New York International Auto Show, the 2016 Outlander is the first Mitsubishi production vehicle to showcase the brand’s striking new “Dynamic Shield” design concept, giving the Outlander a fresh, sophisticated on-road presence.

The Outlander’s bold new front design features a redesigned front and rear fascia, new front guards, LED Day Time Running Lights (DRL), silver roof rails, new design 18-inch alloy wheels and LED tail lights.

Its stylish yet functional interior includes a redesigned steering wheel, new accent trim, improved seating comfort and premium finishes to give the cabin a more sophisticated feel.

The 2016 Outlander delivers a smoother, more responsive on-road performance with improvements to noise levels, ride, handling and throttle response.

A new generation Continuously-Variable Transmission (CVT) offers improved acceleration, performance, shift feel and torque delivery.

The Outlander’s ride quality and comfort have been enhanced with increased structural rigidity in the body, revised suspension design, new Electric Power Steering calibration and reduced noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) throughout the vehicle.

The new Outlander retains its predecessor’s outstanding safety and environmental performance through the use of cutting-edge four-wheel drive, passive safety technology as well as fuel-efficient engine technology.

A renamed three model structure includes the entry level LS, mid-range XLS and top-of-the-range Exceed variant.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Executive Director of Marketing Tony Principe said the new-look Outlander features an unprecedented number of improvements and enhancements that will increase its overall appeal in the market.

“The new 2016 Outlander demonstrates the brand’s renewed emphasis on style, refinement and driver engagement.

“The changes we’ve made to the Outlander are more than skin deep. The 2016 Outlander looks, drives and feels like an entirely new vehicle making it even more compelling value than before.”

“The 2016 Outlander builds on what is already a well-rounded, well-equipped package with great SUV functionality, terrific fuel economy and low running costs. Combined with Mitsubishi’s reliability and safety standards, the 2016 Outlander represents unmatched value.”

The Outlander’s bold new front design marks the first time Mitsubishi’s new “Dynamic Shield” design concept has been applied to a production vehicle. This feature is inherited from the bumper side protection seen on generations of the Pajero, providing reassuring protection for both people and car.

Chrome and silver plated grille, silver skid plate, LED Day Time Running Lamps (DRL) and fog lamp bezel complete the front design of the 2016 Outlander.

Outlander’s new sharper rear styling features a new design bumper and silver skid plate. Chrome tailgate garnish with LED rear combination lamps and rear fog lamp compliment the front design.

Outlander’s new exterior design is unified overall through the use of body-wide chrome accents, silver roof rails and door sill garnish under the bottom edge of the front and rear doors. New look 18-inch alloy wheel design complete the modern exterior.

The top-of-the-range Exceed model gains new exterior LED headlamps.

The 2016 Outlander gets a fresh design update to the interior space incorporating stylish yet functional features.

The interior is embellished with soft touch features and premium grade materials at every contact point. A new design steering wheels features gloss black bezel and new accent trim has been applied to the doors and dashboard. New material headlining, subtle stitching highlights on the instrument panel and a soft type centre console enhance the sophisticated feel of the cabin. The top-of-the-range Exceed model gains a gloss black streamline vein instrument panel and door trim.

Seating comfort has been greatly enhanced with improved lateral support and an increase in side bolster stiffness. A new black cloth seat trim (on LS and XLS models) with stitching details complement the new interior look.

Functionality has been greatly improved with an Electro-chromatic rear view mirror (on XLS and Exceed models) and sunglasses holder (on LS and XLS models).

The 2016 Outlander boasts improved handling dynamics and greatly reduced noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) along with increased body and structural rigidity for a quieter and superbly composed ride.

NVH improvements have been developed in part from the application of extensive sound insulation and isolation damping materials throughout the vehicle. Engine noise, cabin boom, road and wind noise are all reduced due to the modified engine air intake system (petrol and diesel engines), noise-isolating windscreen glass, improved weather stripping, new tyres, damper tuning and modified suspension mounts. In total, thirty-nine NVH improvements have been applied to the 2016 model.

The door closing sound is further improved by revising the structure of the door seals for greater sense of quality when opening and closing.

Refinement also comes in the form of manoeuvrability. Improved steering response, handling and ride feel are achieved through a more rigid suspension system, reinforced body and Electronic Power Steering calibrations. The larger diameter rear dampers allow accurate tuning to gain good straight line stability and high levels of ride comfort.

The revised Continuously-Variable Transmission (CVT) system delivers improved acceleration launch feel from a standing start as well as acceleration response across the rev range to give increased overtaking performance. Transmission shift quality, kick-down feel and downshift response are all improved, as is fuel economy from friction reduction applications and overall ratio expansion.

The 2016 Outlander range maintains its five-star ANCAP safety rating thanks to its combination of active and passive safety features.

The Outlander has front driver and passenger airbags, side, curtain and knee protection airbags, reversing camera, reserving sensors and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.

The Outlander’s Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body structure is further bolstered with active safety features including Traction Control and Active Stability Control (ASC), ABS with Electronic Break Distribution (EBD) and Hill Start Assist.

The Exceed is equipped with additional safety features including Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Mitigation.

  • Uprated 280kW 3.0-litre V6 supercharged engine delivers extra 30kW to enhance Range Rover Sport performance line-up
  • HST features distinctive exterior design and unique interior options
  • Range of updates announced for 2016 Model Year Range Rover Sport

Whitley, UK, 24 March 2015 – Land Rover will present the new Range Rover Sport HST at the New York International Auto Show 2015.

The HST enhances the high performance Range Rover Sport driving experience thanks to its uprated 280kW 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine, unique chassis settings and bespoke design features.

David Mitchell, Vehicle Programme Director Range Rover Sport, said: “The HST extends our Range Rover Sport line-up giving customers even greater choice. Sitting between the existing 250kW Range Rover Sport 3.0-litre V6 supercharged and the 405kW supercharged variant, it delivers enhanced V6 performance to go with Range Rover Sport’s renowned comfort and refinement.”

A raft of updates to the 2016 Model Year Range Rover Sport line-up will also be showcased in New York, including the availability of a new Gesture Tailgate and the introduction of Automatic Access Height.

New Range Rover Sport HST

The bold new Range Rover Sport HST is identified by its unique exterior design and interior enhancements, which give the high performance luxury SUV a distinctive and dynamic appearance.

A striking black theme is the hallmark of the exterior design. The HST is fitted with Stealth Pack lamps front and rear, which feature non-reflective surrounds and combine with a Santorini Black contrast roof and a new spoiler to give the luxury SUV a purposeful profile.

The HST’s distinctive 21-inch alloy wheels feature an exclusive dark satin grey finish helping to highlight the uprated brakes, which are identified by red brake calipers. Larger 22-inch Stealth alloy wheels are available as optional equipment.

The bonnet and front wing vents, grille and fog lamp bezels all feature a Gloss Black finish, echoed by the ‘Range Rover’ lettering on the leading edge of the bonnet and rear tailgate. Sculpted body-coloured lower door panels and additional vent detailing on the bumpers are also fitted.

In common with other Dynamic Range Rover Sport variants, the HST wears a red Sport badge at the rear, complemented by unique HST badging on the front wing vents.

Power comes from Land Rover’s 280kW 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine, enhanced to provide an extra 30kW.

Unique chassis settings deliver an even more focused driving experience and sharper responses, without compromising the vehicle’s trademark comfort and refinement. Detail changes to the suspension reduce body roll and deliver enhanced agility, while the uprated brakes feature 20-inch discs to deliver even more confidence-inspiring performance.

The HST is available with a single-range transmission, reflecting its high performance capabilities, and Land Rover’s engineers have devised a unique Terrain Response set-up for the vehicle. It features a Dynamic Mode, which optimises the suspension, Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) and other electronic systems to suit on-road driving.  This feature provides more controlled electronic damping and a more responsive throttle pedal, while enhancing gearshifts and steering response to match the change in vehicle character.

Inside the HST comes with eye-catching duo tone seats trimmed in luxurious Oxford Leather. In combination with a contrast fascia, all-Ebony door trims and centre console and standard Ebony headlining, they create a unique environment. The high quality leather upholstery is available in four Ebony/colour combinations, along with an all-Ebony option.

Bespoke HST badging on the dashboard, carpet mats and the TFT instrument panel highlight the luxury model’s high performance focus. The sporty cues extend to Noble-plated paddle shift gear levers on the steering wheel and distinctive bright ‘Sports’ pedals, while the aluminium interior trim features a textured ‘Sports’ finish.

2016 Model Year Range Rover Sport

In addition to revealing the new HST derivative, Land Rover today announced a range of enhancements to the 2016 Model Year Range Rover Sport, with the emphasis on improved practicality and desirability.

Land Rover will also introduce stop/start technology on the SDV8 diesel engine as part of the 2016 Model Year enhancements.

All Terrain Progress Control is fitted as standard to 2016 Range Rover Sports featuring Terrain Response 2 technology, for advanced off-road capability. New Auto Access Height is introduced as standard, for improved ease of entry and exit. The system automatically lowers the vehicle to access height when it comes to a halt and a door is opened.

Practicality is also enhanced on HSE models and above, by the availability of a Gesture Tailgate, which provides hands-free operation of the tailgate by waving a foot underneath the rear of the vehicle. Twin-sensors allow customers to trigger tailgate operation from the kerbside and the system is fully compatible with a tow bar.

Customers will also benefit from an increased range of personalisation options and an extended range of accessories.  A new Carbon Fibre Pack is available as a dealer fit item, which includes side vents, tailgate trim, door mirror covers, a front grille surround, fog lamp bezels and bonnet vents finished in high-gloss lacquer.

The 16MY Range Rover Sport will be available to available Q4, 2015 and prices will be announced closer to launch.

Strong demand particularly from city-based customers has prompted Toyota Australia to recreate a special-edition LandCruiser Prado Altitude with an "out of sight" spare wheel.

The latest value-added Prado Altitude has the spare located under the vehicle rather than on the outside of the tailgate - and it also has a glass hatch that opens separately.

The revised rear styling results in a lighter tailgate that is easier to use and easier to open, which is particularly useful in cramped situations such as city parking.

The spare is mounted in place of the regular Prado's secondary fuel tank - giving added convenience to owners who do not require the extended driving range.

Customers for the $65,990* special-edition model also benefit from $10,000 of extra equipment for just $5,000 more than the automatic GXL diesel model on which it is based.

Toyota Australia executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said the company's dealers reported brisk demand last year for an almost identical Prado Altitude.

"Customers in metropolitan areas accounted for a markedly higher proportion of sales for the restyled Prado Altitude than for the regular Prado diesel models," Mr Cramb said.

"The increase of six per cent reflects the added appeal of the new style among these buyers, and the 900 cars we had on offer were snapped up quickly," he said.

"As a result, Toyota has upped the order for the latest Prado Altitude by one-third to 1,200 cars, providing an opportunity to obtain further feedback on the style and convenience of the Prado Altitude rear design."

The 2015 version has the same added features as last year's Altitude. It is distinguished by 17-inch alloy wheels that feature a dark-grey finish compared with the bright alloys adopted last year.

The price is also $2,530 lower thanks to the removal of import duty on vehicles flowing from the free-trade agreement with Japan.

Prado Altitude retains an 87-litre fuel tank which offers a driving range of more than 1,000km** based on official fuel-consumption figures.

Last year, total Prado sales rose 10.6 per cent while the large SUV segment in which it competes rose just one per cent.

The special model gains leather-accented seats that are trimmed with contrasting grey inserts and stitching on the bolsters and headrests.

Other equipment sourced from the premium VX and luxury Kakadu grades includes a tilt-and-slide moonroof, Blu-Ray rear entertainment system with three wireless headphones and remote control, electro-chromatic rear-view mirror, power front seats and rain-sensing wipers.

The Prado Altitude upgrade also incorporates the 14-speaker JBL audio system from the more-expensive Prado models, along with DAB+ digital radio^, a seven-inch display screen, and satellite navigation" with Suna^^ live traffic alerts.

It gains the full suite of Toyota Link# apps: Destination Download, Local Search and Fuel Finder with "navigate to" function, plus the Toyota Help feature and the user-paid Destination Assist.

Side mouldings and air-conditioning surrounds finished in chrome also feature, along with carbon fibre-look details on the dash panel and gearshift surround.

The model is set off with an Altitude badge and four premium paints: Eclipse Black (which is not offered on any other Prado), Crystal Pearl (from VX and Kakadu), Silver Pearl and Graphite.

Prado Altitude is powered by Toyota's torquey 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, which is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with gated shift.

It retains GXL features including reversing camera, rear parking sensors, three-zone climate-controlled air-conditioning, audio controls on the steering wheel, smart entry and start and cruise control.

There are seven airbags, vehicle stability and traction control, anti-skid brakes, hill-start assist control and downhill assist control.

  • Transporter named ‘Best Crew Van’
  • Amarok wins ‘Best Utility Pick-Up’ and ‘Best Double Cab’ awards
  • Caddy awarded ‘Best Local Delivery Van’

United Kingdom – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is celebrating a stunning trophy haul at the annual Business Van Awards. The brand claimed Best Crew Van for Transporter, Best Local Delivery Van for Caddy, plus Best Utility Pick-Up and Best Double Cab for the Amarok.

Announcing the results before an industry audience, Business Vans’ editorial director, Ralph Morton, commented:

Best Crew Van – Transporter
‘It’s not just the Transporter panel van version that shines out for SME van operators, when it comes to carrying people to various jobs, the Kombi variant is a winner too.

‘But the real appeal of a Kombi is that it can be a tax-efficient dual use vehicle. For someone in the trades the Transporter Kombi is a brilliant, smart and professional-looking working van during the day, which can then double for family use at the weekends. It means you won’t need an additional car – the Kombi does it all.’

Best Local Delivery Van – Caddy
‘The VW Caddy is compact – just what you need for local delivery work – but this Volkswagen van also has a choice of payloads and 3.2m3 of load capacity and can take loads up to 1.78m. So it’s big on performance.

‘Add in the fact the Caddy is smart, has legendary VW build quality and reliability and carries the professional image that goes with the Volkswagen nameplate, and you have an excellent winner of our local delivery van category.’

Best Utility Pick-Up and Best Double Cab – Amarok
‘We do like a pick-up here at Business Vans and despite challenges from rivals, the Volkswagen Amarok remains top of the pile, whether it’s a do-it-all utility version you want or a more upmarket double cab.

‘Why does it remain our favourite? Outside it looks tough and on the road you feel like you’re ready for anything, the bed area is practical and spacious, yet inside it is comfortable with a car-like feel and comfy ride. Add in Volkswagen reliability and low running costs, and you can see why the Amarok remains king of the pick-ups.’

  • All new Defender tour opens at Solihull plant to celebrate one of the world’s most iconic vehicles.
  • Includes innovative new visitor attraction replicating an original 1948 production line.
  • Over 20,000 visitors expected before UK production ends this year.

Solihull, UK: Land Rover has re-created history by building an authentic replica of the production line used to manufacture its first 4x4 in 1948. The ‘Defender Celebration Line’ recreates in detail how the first Series I Land Rover was built at the Solihull manufacturing plant just after the Second World War.

The new visitor attraction, which opened to the public today, forms part of a new Defender tour and showcases replica models in various stages of production, each one meticulously built using identical parts and in precisely the same way as the original Series I.

The display gives an insight into life on a car production line in the late 1940’s using original tools and a draftsmen’s drawing board where visitors are also asked to wear authentic overalls known as ‘cow gowns.’The attraction boasts an area dedicated to telling the story of the creation of the original Series I by Land Rover founder Maurice Wilks using previously unseen video footage provided by his family.

The Celebration Line is located in the heart of the Defender production line which is housed inside one of the original production buildings at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull factory. The opening of the attraction marks the start of a year of celebration as the Defender enters its final year of production in the UK.

The company turned to one of the world’s leading Land Rover enthusiasts and restorers and curator of the famous Dunsfold Collection of historic Land Rovers, Phil Bashall, to help create the vehicles for the production line. Phil built his first Series I Land Rover at the age of 13, but admitted he was shocked when Land Rover told him of plans to build a full replica 1948 production line.

Phil admitted: “It’s been a struggle at times, but a real labour of love to source all of the original parts needed for vehicles that stopped production so many years ago.”

Phil had a large number of the ‘nuts and bolts’ he needed tucked away in his own ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ of Land Rover parts – he has amassed over 8,000 original parts but it was still a long and painstaking search to find all the brakes, clutches, gaskets and pedals required for the exhibit. He enlisted the help of skilled craftsmen and the Land Rover Series I Club to build a replica chassis for the Series I models, along with some of the aluminium bodywork for the vehicles.

Once Phil had collected all of the parts over a period of months, it took him and his mechanic five weeks to build the five Series I models. His guiding light in the challenge and the man who co-ordinated the Celebration Line project is Roger Crathorne. Roger, known simply as ‘Mr Land Rover’, was born in Solihull and joined Land Rover as an apprentice in 1963. He retired last year having completed more than 50 years’ service.

For Roger, seeing the completed exhibit line is a dream come true and the perfect illustration of what makes Land Rover unique in the world of motoring. He said: “No other car maker in the world has anything as authentic and with such meticulous attention to detail as our heritage line. It has taken months of searching and dedication to put this project together, but it has been worth it.”

The new Defender factory tour lasts approximately three hours. The tour begins at the beginning of the production process – the body shop. Here bodies are manufactured prior to being shipped to paint. The tour then continues in final assembly where visitors can see the engine and gearbox lowered onto the chassis and watch as the labour intensive process of assembling the painted body panels begins.

Today, the tour welcomed its very first visitors, the Writtle family from South Gloucestershire [pictured]. They said: “We are huge enthusiasts of this iconic vehicle and own 11 between us. It feels like we have won the lottery as we have secured one of the few Limited Edition Heritage vehicles from the recently announced Celebration Series.

“We were amazed how little the Defender manufacturing process has changed in the last six decades with individual craftsmanship still at the heart of each vehicle produced.
