Uluru, Australia, 03 July 2017 – The New Discovery embodies Land Rover’s drive to go Above and Beyond, combining British desirability with an unstoppable spirit of adventure. It’s an authentic, three-row, seven-seat SUV with unbeatable capability and versatility.

Everyday ingenuity has been at the heart of the Discovery for the last 27 years. New Discovery signals the transformation from cogs to code with more than 1.2 million customers with us on every step of the journey.

The fifth-generation model benefits from Land Rover’s strong, safe and light full-size SUV architecture, delivering comfort and adaptability like no other.

The New Discovery is for the digital age. Ingenious technology keeps your family safe, connected and confident on all surfaces, all terrains and in all weathers to ensure your destination is reached.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s Chief Design Officer said: “New Discovery redefines the large SUV. Land Rover’s design and engineering teams have revolutionised the Discovery DNA to create a highly desirable, extremely versatile and hugely capable premium SUV. We truly believe the result is a radical departure in design that will introduce the Discovery Family to a new, wider customer base.”

Revolutionary design

New Discovery was previewed by the Discovery Vision Concept, which showcased the future direction of the entire Discovery family when it debuted at the New York Auto Show in 2014, and represents a radical departure for Land Rover’s most versatile SUV. The revolutionary design gives Discovery a dynamic appearance with sophisticated surfaces and precisely engineered details designed to resonate with customers on an emotional level.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s Chief Design Officer said: “Design creates an emotional connection between our customers and our vehicles. Our clear design strategy means our vehicles are instantly recognisable and communicate the values of Land Rover that our customers love. New Discovery’s flawless volume and proportions, sophisticated surfaces and precise detailing beautifully combine with engineering integrity to create a premium SUV that will resonate with today’s customers.”

The Discovery family has always had a spirit of adventure and the new model provides a dramatic reinterpretation of Discovery’s 27 years of heritage and practical DNA with a sophisticated design that pays homage to previous models without being restrained by them.

Trademark design features include the stepped roofline, which has identified each of the four previous generations of Discovery and provides an elegant solution to a practical need. The stepped profile optimises headroom for passengers travelling in the third row of seats. It also accommodates Discovery’s customary stadium seating configuration, which sees each row of seats positioned higher than the one in front, ensuring every seat is the best seat in the house.

Land Rover’s design and engineering integrity ensures New Discovery is able to accommodate seven full-sized adults in an SUV body measuring less than five metres in length (4,970mm). Most similar-sized competitors provide 5+2 seating but New Discovery is designed for 95th percentile adults to sit comfortably in its rearmost seats, providing complete interior flexibility. Both third-row seats incorporate ISOFIX mounting points (four in total), so families have the freedom to put child seats in the most appropriate seat for any journey.

The interior of New Discovery continues the design revolution started by the Discovery Sport, where customers can specify a range of premium materials including luxurious Windsor leather upholstery and natural oak veneers.

New style, new comfort, new convenience
The new 17MY Isuzu MU-X sets a striking balance of sporty good looks with a tough and rugged stance that typifies the versatile purpose of this 7 seat SUV.

The new design grille blends harmoniously with the new design headlight assembly to give the new MU-X’s fascia an assertive appearance in keeping with the overall design philosophy, while new Bi-LED projector headlights (which are much brighter than the previous model’s projector headlights), provide increased driver visibility when driving at night.

The new Bi-LED projector headlights are also equipped with an auto-levelling feature, which automatically adjust the headlight beam to the appropriate angle whenever the MU-X is loaded with a complete complement of passengers, heavy cargo and towing. This ensures excellent driver vision when driving at night, and increases safety for all road users by reducing oncoming glare.  New design front fog lights compliment LS-U & LS-T variants for increased driver visibility at night or during inclement weather.

Complementing the fresh exterior look, is a stylish new design 18-inch alloy wheel with All-Terrain (AT) tyres for all LS-U and LS-T variants, with LS-M spec MU-X riding on new design 16-inch alloys with AT tyres.

The MU-X’s interior styling has also been extensively refined, with the passenger cabin now featuring a dual-tone dashboard with soft touch finishes, new chrome and piano-black trimming, and new soft touch armrests and console coverings. In addition, new quilted design leather-accented seats feature in LS-T variants.

Further improving the value proposition, LS-U and LS-T variants now receive an 8-inch touch screen display audio system with in-built SatNav and reversing camera, and LS-M variants now include a 7-inch touch screen display audio system with reversing camera.

Upping the audio-pleasure stakes, all 17MY MU-X cabins now house eight speakers delivering crisp, clear audio for all occupants: two roof mounted speakers in addition to the two front door mounted speakers, two dash mounted tweeters and two rear door mounted speakers. LS-T variants also boast a fold-down roof-mounted 10-inch DVD screen which can be easily viewed by both the second and third row occupants. The remote control unit allows both the DVD and audio functions to be controlled from anywhere in the vehicle.

USB ports number three in all variants of the MU-X. Two are located in the front dash and one in the rear, providing convenient charge points for mobile phones and other portable devices with USB charge ports. While for heavier-duty power requirements, there are three 12 Volt power outlets, located in the centre dash console, glovebox and rear cargo area.

The MU-X’s cabin offers a practical (12 cup holders and 18 storage solutions!) and comfortable environment with excellent leg, head and shoulder room for all passengers – and clever folding-rolling second row seats make passenger access to the third row seating a breeze.

Further improvements to NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) comfort levels have been achieved in the 17MY MU-X, thanks to the addition of new sound and vibration insulation across the vehicle, including to the dash console, floor transmission tunnel, windscreen seal, firewall and floorpan – providing an even more composed driving experience for all occupants.

The power within - “Pumped Up” engine with more torque
Driving the 17MY MU-X’s arrival is Isuzu’s new “Pumped Up” engine – a Euro5 emission compliant 3.0 litre 4JJ1-TC Hi-Power turbo-diesel powerplant. Recently introduced, this new engine is a world first for Isuzu. It was developed exclusively for the Australian market after exhaustive local research and testing into the use and demands of existing Australian Isuzu owners, and no other market currently features an Isuzu 3.0 litre Euro5 compliant engine.

Maximum torque output has been increased to 430Nm from the previous engine’s output of 380Nm to meet the demands of Australian operating conditions and our customer’s expectations.

In comparison to the previous engine, 380Nm of torque (previous maximum) is now on tap from 1,700 - 3,500 rpm – which is 100 rpm lower and continues 700 rpm higher – meaning the same engine rpm provides more power and the same torque can be generated at lower engine rpm.

By producing more power at lower engine rpm, and more torque, the new “Pumped Up” MU-X is not only more fuel efficient and produces less toxic exhaust emissions – but still deliver Isuzu’s famous “tree-stump-pulling grunt”, that’s fit for the biggest of jobs.

A new variable geometry turbocharger with intercooler, and ultra-high pressure common rail fuel injection ensures precise and efficient fuel delivery, and a newly designed differential has also been introduced to handle the increase in engine torque and ensure that Isuzu’s legendary durability and reliability lives on.

Revealing the excellence of Isuzu’s diesel technology know-how, the 17MY MU-X’s 4JJ1-TC Hi-Power Euro5 turbo-diesel engine has a number of new components:

1. New design pistons
2. New design fuel injectors
3. New design fuel supply pump
4. New VGS turbo-charger
5. New larger Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler
6. New design EGR bypass valve
7. New ceramic glow plugs
8. Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS)
9. Diesel Particulate Defuser (DPD)

All these new features culminate in a more fuel efficient and low emission turbo-diesel engine that harnesses Isuzu’s century of diesel engine manufacturing, and continues to maintain Isuzu’s reputation for outstanding reliability and low cost of ownership.

“Pumped Up” transmissions designed and built for purpose
With a new Aisin AWR6B45 6-Speed Automatic Transmission with “lock-up” torque converter, drivers of the MU-X are provided the most efficient gear selection to suit a wide variety of driving conditions – further improving fuel efficiency and lowering CO2 emissions. This automatic transmission features a “adaptive learning” function, which automatically adjusts the gear changes to suit your driving style and circumstances, whether it be towing or carrying a load, driving in undulating regions or cruising at highway speeds – thereby improving both driveability and fuel efficiency.

A sequential shift mode allows the driver to select gears on demand, giving the driver the same level of control as in a manual transmission, which is extremely beneficial in off-road environments. The new Aisin AWR6B45 6-Speed Automatic Transmission also incorporates the Slip Control System Lock-up Clutch (Lock-up Torque Converter) which raises transmission efficiency in the 2nd to 6th gears (all gears except 1st and reverse) when a certain speed is reached, and improves fuel efficiency. The lock-up clutch will be released when the accelerator pedal is pressed forcefully. This system provides increased transmission efficiency and fuel economy, and automatically operates to reduce torque converter slip loss during moderate acceleration at low speed. It also increases the efficiency effects of engine fuel-cut when coasting.

Also on offer is a 6-Speed manual transmission designed exclusively by Isuzu. It features “close ratio” gears and “triple cone” synchronizers to provide easier gear selection and long service life. This new 6-speed manual transmission is also linked to a Gear-Shift Indicator on the driver’s instrument panel which intelligently displays the recommended gear position for optimum fuel efficiency.

Excellent towing performance
Thanks to the abundance of low-down torque on tap, the MU-X makes for a confident towing partner – be it a boat, caravan, horse float or trailer. All MU-X variants offer 3-tonne towing capacity (braked), and thanks to the under-stressed engine calibration, delivers exceptional fuel economy even when under load. Reversing cameras (with guide lines) on all models now make hitching up a breeze.

A focus on safety
All variants of the MU-X are equipped with a reversing camera and Rear Park Assist (RPA). They offer an extensive and impressive level of occupant protection; six airbags (dual front, side and full-length curtain), 4-channel 4-sensor Anti-skid Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), as well as Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Hill Decent Control (HDC).

MU-X cabins are constructed from High Tensile Steel for outstanding strength and rigidity to create a resilient passenger safety cell. To further enhance this design criteria, Isuzu engineers have made use of tailor-blank welding construction techniques in those areas that warrant additional strength for increased occupant protection, including anti-intrusion door beams.
There are height adjustable head restraints for all occupants and dual pre-tensioners with load limiters for the front seatbelts, along with ISO-FIX child restraint points in the second row.

Off-road ready
Front independent double wishbone suspension with coil springs, gas shocks and stabiliser bar allows the driver positive feedback and steering control regardless of the terrain underfoot, and a rear five-link  suspension configuration also with coil springs, stabiliser bar and gas shocks provide superior stability and generous wheel articulation when traversing off road.

All 4x4 variants of the MU-X offer an impressive level of ground clearance, affording these models true rugged off-road performance. For added protection, 4x4 models are also equipped with a 2mm steel front skid plate, steel sump and transfer case guards plus protection for the leading edge of the fuel tank when travelling off-road.

Further confidence is provided with Hill Descent Control (HDC) which assists driver control by controlling the vehicle’s brakes to maintain a constant low speed when descending steep slopes, or on slippery off-road surfaces. Increased driver control means increased safety, and importantly, HDC is offered on all Isuzu MU-X variants, including 4x2 models.

Perfect for fleet
A robust ladder frame chassis ensures long term durability when exposed to harsh driving environments – making the MU-X ideal for heavy-duty fleet applications. Flat-fold seating creates a cargo space for the biggest of loads of up to 1,830 litres, and with competitive pricing, low maintenance costs and outstanding fuel economy, the MU-X presents cost-conscious businesses with a smart alternative when it comes to satisfying their fleet requirements. Isuzu’s ultra-reliable 3.0L Isuzu turbo-diesel engine completes the business case ensuring downtime becomes a thing of the past.

Service Plus 555 – Even more bang for your buck
As a testament to the immense confidence we have in building durable, reliable and efficient vehicles, every Isuzu vehicle is backed by the Isuzu UTE Australia Service Plus Program which includes a 5 year warranty, 5 years Roadside Assistance and 5 year/50,000 kilometre Capped Price Servicing program – which adds further peace of mind when it comes to protecting your investment and your wallet.

Australia’s most famous precision driving team has re-signed a new multi-year deal with Isuzu UTE Australia (IUA) and with it, launched a striking new look and new bag of tricks for 2017 and beyond.

Dubbed “Team D-MAX”, the outfit is owned and operated by EMG Precision Driving and made the switch to the Isuzu D-MAX back in 2013 – and over the past four years has demonstrated the strength and durability of IUA’s products through a punishing performance schedule.

Having performed as a main arena attraction at regional and capital city agricultural shows for decades, the precision driving team holds a special place in the hearts of most Australians.  Since joining forces with IUA, the team has also become increasingly involved in different types of events such as caravan, camping and 4WD shows, giving patrons the chance to get up close and personal with the team and experience some of their breath-taking stunts – and abilities of Isuzu’s vehicles – first hand.

“Precision driving has been a crowd favourite at city and regional agricultural shows for over 45 years and reaches a huge live audience in both our metropolitan and regional markets,” IUA’s Assistant General Manager – Marketing & PR, Dave Harding said.

“As well as its spectacular driving displays, the team now takes passengers for rides up and over the world’s steepest 4WD ramp, the Isuzu UTE ‘Iron Summit’  as well as in a D-MAX being driven on two wheels ...  it’s definitely a very exciting experience not on offer anywhere else.

“No other sponsorship property outside of off-road racing gives us the opportunity to display our D-MAX and MU-X in action, and present the extraordinary performance and durability our vehicles offer,” he added.

The Team D-MAX event calendar is bulging in 2017 with the precision driving troupe expected to perform at over 25 shows throughout the year, with Team D-MAX Director Wayne Boatwright stating that the enhanced demand for the precision driving team coincides directly with the increasing popularity of Isuzu UTE as an automotive brand.

“We’ve enjoyed our partnership with Isuzu UTE Australia and it is great to be associated with the market leader in terms of growth but for us, faith in the product is the main factor.

“There’s a lot of choice in the market when it comes to an automotive partner – but all we care about is genuine high level dependability and toughness – and in that regard the D-MAX and MU-X are in a league of their own,” Mr. Boatwright said.

In preparation for the year, Team D-MAX Lead Driver Jack Monkhouse said the team has some exciting developments planned that will enhance the existing show.

“Choreographed to a brand new soundtrack, each performance will feature a range of daring vehicle stunts and close formation driving.

“Crowd favourites, such as driving on two wheels, jumping the utes over one another and the incredibly spectacular head-to-head four way crossover will all feature in the show, and for locations where we are limited with arena access, we’ll be introducing some new customer activations that will add another element of excitement to the Team D-MAX experience,” Mr. Monkhouse added.

Mr. Harding said Team D-MAX has been a fantastic asset for IUA’s dealership network, and since partnering with IUA in 2013, Team D-MAX has performed at over 100 shows nationally, reaching a live audience of 8 million people and conducted over 18,000 passenger rides.

Honda Australia Confirms all Turbo engines, 5- and 7-Seats for Ultimate Family SUV

  • State-of-the-art VTEC Turbo engine line-up for new CR-V
  • Roomy five- or seven-seat configurations confirmed for Australia
  • New levels of refinement, quietness, ride comfort, style and quality

MELBOURNE, May 05, 2017 – Honda Australia’s stylish, all-new CR-V SUV will be available with an all-turbo engine line-up and both five or seven seats when it goes on sale in July.

The fifth-generation Honda CR-V Turbo combines a high-performance VTEC Turbo engine and high-efficiency automatic transmission across the range with Earth Dreams TechnologyTM. The VTEC Turbo delivers 140 kW of power and 240 Nm of torque. Honda’s next-generation powertrain technology delivers the power customers want as well as the fuel efficiency they don’t expect from an SUV.

The all-new Honda CR-V boasts bold and sophisticated new styling, a more spacious, versatile and premium-quality interior, its first-ever available state-of-the-art VTEC Turbo engine mated to Honda’s proven CVT transmission, and a host of new features and technologies for customers that enhance connectivity, comfort and convenience.

Based on an all-new platform architecture, the all-new CR-V also targets the highest levels of quality and driving refinement in the medium SUV class, including benchmark steering precision, ride comfort, body control and cabin quietness.

For the first time, Australian buyers can choose between spacious five-seat or seven-seat variants. Like the current CR-V, the all-new version will be available in both front and all-wheel drive.

“For Australia, the Honda CR-V will be a significant player in the medium SUV segment,” said Honda Australia Director, Mr. Stephen Collins.

“As well as the VTEC Turbo engine line-up across the range, family buyers will also appreciate the versatility afforded by being able to choose between a five, or seven-seat models. Our customers have been asking for this level of versatility and now we’ll deliver it.”

Mr. Collins said there had already been huge interest in the all-new Honda CR-V. “Because of its success overseas, our customers already know it’s coming. It’s clear both our existing customers and potential buyers currently in-market for a medium SUV, are already putting the Honda CR-V on their shopping lists.”

Advancing the Honda CR-V’s exterior with a dynamic and exciting new design, the fifth-generation Honda CR-V builds strongly on the previous four generations. Like those vehicles, the shape of the new CR-V is utility oriented, providing the roominess, flexible storage and off-highway capabilities that are useful for so many people.

The new CR-V heads in a fresh new direction with strong visual cues, thanks to crisper and sharper front-end design elements, aggressive stylised headlights surrounded by wing-shaped LED DRLs, and wide, muscular mudguards. The long bonnet, longer wheelbase, short rear overhang and dual exhausts also give the new CR-V a more sophisticated and athletic presence.

Already the Honda CR-V is making strong impressions in the markets where it’s already gone on sale. The all-new CR-V has been a huge hit in North America, most recently receiving acclaim in the WardsAuto 10 Best Interiors awards.

“When you step into the new CR-V you’ll know you’re in a premium, quality cabin but that premiumness will also be evident in the driving experience,” he said. “We also know our customers rank style as an important consideration for purchase and the CR-V has plenty of style as well as sophistication and a strong dynamic visual element.”

“The fact that the all-new Honda CR-V will also be available in two-wheel, as well as, four-wheel drive makes it the ultimate family SUV.”

In Australia, the first-generation Honda CR-V was launched in October 1997 and since then has enjoyed a reputation among family buyers as one of the most popular and enduring Honda models.

When the first-generation Honda CR-V arrived in Australia it helped shaped the compact SUV landscape for customers looking for a roomy and convenient lifestyle vehicle with all the attributes associated with Honda vehicles — innovation, quality, durability and functionality.

Mr. Collins said the all-new Honda CR-V was one of three major launches for Honda in Australia in 2017.

“We’re about to go on sale with the Civic hatch to complement the Civic sedan, followed by the CR-V and later in the year, the hot performance Type R,” he said.

“The Type R has already created a sensation by setting a new record for a front wheel drive car on the Nurburgring and its recent appearance at the 2017 Formula 1® Rolex Grand Prix in Melbourne generated a lot of interest.”

Full model details, pricing and key specifications for the all-new Honda CR-V will be released closer to launch.

Jeep Launches Updated Grand Cherokee Range

  • Refreshed styling, more refinement, performance, equipment and safety
  • All-new Trailhawk model takes Grand Cherokee’s offroad skills to new heights
  • There & Back Guarantee includes five-year warranty, lifetime roadside assist

March 2017 – The updated Jeep Grand Cherokee range has arrived in Australia, bringing a fresh new look and increased performance, safety and equipment levels to the world’s most awarded SUV. The refreshed range also welcomes the toughest Grand Cherokee ever to Australia in the form of the mighty Trailhawk.

Pricing for the updated Grand Cherokee range kicks off at $47,500 for the value-packed Laredo to $91,000 for the SRT performance champ.

“The updated Grand Cherokee range is not only more refined on-road and more capable offroad, we’ve bolstered its safety credentials and made it even better value for money,” said Jeep Australia Director, Guillaume Drelon.

“On top of all that, the arrival of the new Trailhawk model, with its heightened offroad abilities, is particularly exciting for Australia, a nation whose core values resonate strongly with Jeep’s love of freedom and adventure.”

These updates not only increase the Grand Cherokee’s breadth of capabilities – from the performance-focused, V8-powered SRT to the all-terrain-conquering Trailhawk – they also make this Grand Cherokee the most technically advanced ever.

The new range stretches from the value-packed Laredo and leather-lined Limited to the adventure-ready Trailhawk, luxury Overland and high-performance SRT powered by a 344kW Hemi V8 engine.

All-new to Australia, the rugged Grand Cherokee Trailhawk model, priced from $74,000, takes Jeep’s offroad reputation and capabilities to new heights.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is powered exclusively by a strong and economical
3.0-litre turbodiesel V6 mated to Jeep’s proven 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Trailhawk utilises Jeep’s acclaimed Quadra-Drive II 4x4 system, complete with an electronic limited slip rear differential for even greater traction. This, combined with a unique tune for the Quadra-Lift air suspension, improves the Trailhawk’s wheel articulation and increases ground clearance to 260mm, the most ever in a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The addition of four sturdy underbody skid plates endows the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with supreme offroad prowess befitting a marque that has been producing all-terrain vehicles for more than 75 years, and is the only automotive brand to be awarded the Purple Heart for distinguished service during WWII.

Red front tow hooks complete the Trailhawk’s offroad enhancements, and combine with a distinctive matte black bonnet decal, and neutral grey mirrors and grille, to give the Trailhawk its distinctive look.

All Grand Cherokee models sport a slimmer version of the trademark seven slot grille, a design element that has featured on every Jeep model since the Willys original.

Reinforcing its class-leading offroad performance, the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk has new Offroad Pages housed within the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen.

Jeep Offroad Pages are included in all updated 4x4 Grand Cherokee models – except the SRT performance flagship which retains SRT Performance Pages –  one of many detail changes that cement Jeep’s flagship range as luxurious and comfortable  on-road and rugged and capable offroad.

Major visual updates to the exterior include a new grille and headlamps, new front fascia and new LED fog lamps. A fresh selection of 18 and 20-inch wheels and a choice of six new exterior colours – for a total of 11 – complete the Grand Cherokee’s visual makeover.

Inside, the Jeep Grand Cherokee gets a new ergonomically designed gear selector that falls to hand more naturally and is more intuitive to use.

The fitment of an acoustic windscreen and front door glass across the updated range improves the Grand Cherokee’s already impressive in-cabin refinement.

The updated Grand Cherokee range also introduces active safety updates like LaneSense Lane Departure Warning Plus, and Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist, further enhancing its five-star ANCAP safety credentials

Towing capability continues to match or better larger, more expensive vehicles with a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kg.

Owners can also now keep an eye on trailers or loads with the new Rear Trailer Hitch Camera View.

The Grand Cherokee continues to be offered with the choice of four drivetrains: a 4x2 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, a 4x4 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, a 4x4 3.0-litre V6 EcoDiesel and the flagship
6.4-litre Hemi V8.

Revisions to the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 have increased power to 213kW. Fuel economy has improved by up to four percent, in part due to the implementation of a stop-start system that reduces consumption in urban areas.

The updated Grand Cherokee also gets many engineering changes that improve efficiency, including an electric power steering system and Eco Mode as part of the standard eight-speed automatic transmission.

A new Gen II transmission has been developed for both the 4x2 Pentastar and 4x4 EcoDiesel. As well as shift quality and driveability improvements, the lubrication system has been optimised, creating less drag on the clutches and further improving durability.

The updated Jeep Grand Cherokee range goes on-sale March 2017.

There & Back Guarantee

All new Jeep models, including the updated Grand Cherokee range, are covered by Jeep’s comprehensive There & Back Guarantee, which includes a five-year transferable manufacturer warranty, lifetime roadside assistance and capped price servicing when serviced within Jeep’s 99-strong national dealer network.
“The Jeep There & Back Guarantee is the next step in our commitment to improve the Jeep ownership experience,” said Jeep Australia CEO Steve Zanlunghi. “This is not a limited-time offer or a short term promotion. It forms a fundamental component of our business going forward and it’s a commitment to our owners now and in the future.”
